Don't hate Ford, hate your government. The reason Ford isn't bringing that vehicle to North America is that the US and Canadian governments have stricter crash safety and emissions standards than the rest of the world and this truck would need a lot of changes to meet those standards.

I'm in Australia right now, funny thing is they JUST NOW got the Ranger platform in about the last year, when we lost it... they just had the Courier, similar but not the same as a Ranger. That and almost everything's diesel and crew cab, and some of the small trucks still have straight axles...

Crash safety? Youre telling me that a truck that got the BEST EVER score in Europe cant even pass our crash tests? I dont believe that.

Ford says that en route to earning the maximum five-star Euro NCAP rating, the 2012 Ranger earned the best score ever awarded to a pickup truck and the best Euro NCAP rating of any vehicle ever tested for pedestrian protection. Ford will be equipping European Rangers with standard side curtain airbags, side thorax airbags and knee airbags, in addition to its front airbags.

It really sucks we can't bring anything in from Mexico. I tried so hard several times back in the 80's to get a car across the border. It was a brand new VW bug (The 60's-70's style that were still being made new there). I could buy a new VW for around $3,600. But try to get it across the border?? Haaaaaaaa....NO WAY, JOSE!!!

Ok, I know the 4-door Rangers were not sold here because of the poor performance of the A-pillars in a head on or roll over. The global unit is probably and emissions thing since it's most common power plant is a 4-cyl diesel. That and the fact that it is roughly 90% the size of an F-150 means the two trucks would be competing directly with each other for the same place in the US market.

Add that to the fact that it is butt-ugly on a uni-body FWD "truck" (I'll use that word for now since it has a cab and bed, but I am working on a better term) and it probably won't sell well enough to make it worth bringing over here. This is like the Thai Rangers. It shares nothing more than a name badge and manufacturer with the trucks we have had in the US for the last 30 years.

Obviously I have not seen one in person to look, but I heard that it is a Unibody design, essentially a stretched Explorer cage with a bed. Something similar in design to a Honda Ridgeline.

Looking at some of these pictures I did find, it is hard to tell for sure, but it looks like some of my information may be wrong. I can see a rear axle and drive shaft (obviously a 4x4 model would have those either way) but I see something else that looks more like a traditional T-case.

I still think they are butt ugly either way.

Scott, run by a dealership and look under one before you leave Australia. Clear all this up for us.

He's out quad racing right now but when he comes home I'll see if I can take a look at my neighbor's. It is about 3 months old. I think the ones sold here are made in Brazil though. Like the Ford Edge.

PR videos for the World Ranger, seems like a damn fine truck. http://www.ford.com.au/commercial/ranger#overlay=1248923755523
Pssst dude the steering wheels on the wrong side.

Actually there are 2 reasons. One the new Ranger sold in the rest of the world is only a couple inches shorter than the F150 although it is 6 six narrower. The other is that sales of Rangers in the US has been declining and Ford sold less than 60,000 last year. Of course I think Ford wants me to replace my Ranger with somebody elses little truck.

yeah, they're body on frame, the only utes (what they call trucks over here...) that are unibody are the car crosbreds although they're still rear wheel drive, and the Ford's get a 4.0L OHC I6...
