So i have a 87 ranger 2.9 v6. I dont understand if this is right but when i start my truck it jumps to 2 grand rpm then drops right down to about 9 hudred rpm. Should that be happening or shout it being keeping a higher rpm for longer???

Is it a manual or auto trans? My 87 ranger manual trans. if I start it with the shifter in like first gear with the clutch pushed in it revs up hard than idles down. Now if I start it with the shifter in neutral and the clutch pushed in it does not do it at all. i don't have a clue why it dose it

I dont know these engines well.. but in my thought it sounds right.. if it was a cold day i could see the revs staying up but there is no need for them to once the computer detects the operating condition.. but again.. i dont have any knowledge of these engines

My credo

Does it go back to normal idle after warming up?

Several sensors may in play, the IAT, ECT, TPS . . .
See if it has any codes that won't pull a light.

I have the issue of hunting idle and hard restart sometimes.
I haven't pulled the codes yet as I've been working on the other truck and
fixing things that I fixed before :icon_twisted:.
