I can't remember what site I saw this on:here or serious explorations but there was a way to remotely mount the ignition module. What vehicles had a fender or core support mounted ignition module,it was basically a unit with cooling fins that the module mounted to.Any help would be great, thanks

Not sure if the 2.9 and the 3L use the same TFI ICM but I'm sure it's pretty close if not the same. They were smarter on the 3L by placing it off the distributor. Heat is BAD for electronics.

No the the 3.0 ignition module is different...every thing about the 3.0 is different to 2.9, outside the fact that they are both V6's.

Yes i saw some good pictures here on TRS, try using the search ...there are many on the subject.....here is just one http://www.therangerstation.com/tech_library/remote_tfi.htm

You can use a heat sink from radio shack or wherever and make your own extension cable or you can use the cable and heat sink from a late eighties, early nineties aerostar but you will have to make sure the connecters are the same and you will have to use the module from your 2.9. It's an easy thing to make from ods and ends everyone has hanging around their workshop.

Thanks guys,I found a site:cool cats(mercury cougars)where someone did a whole article on it and it seems simple enough.I like how the guy mentioned he was gonna mount it inside the airbox, plenty of cool air.Now I just got to wait till payday to order some parts for a badly needed tune-up,the ol' girl is only runnin' on 5 cyl's and then hopefully off to Disneyland(pick'a'part).

Hello

Coolcats is a cool site. Between coolcats , Corral.net, TRS, B2.org, forcougartird and fordexplorer it answers all my questions with my Fords. All good sites for us ford freaks.

How'd this be different???? It's just a generalized ignition module.....

Kinda like how EDIS6 modules are used on just about every Ford V6........hmmmm.

Oh, and I can name a couple things the 2.9 and 3.0 share.....

TFI and EEC-IV?

Ignition systems rarely have much to do with the actual engine, but based on it having 6 cylinders, and running off a 10*BTDC setting in this case.

Another option would be ditching TFI ALL together. How about adding EDIS6?

I'm doing it on my 3L, and I'm sure my engine will appreciate it.
