I think a larger 135 amp alternator will work. From the 4.0L explorers and it was an option on newer rangers. It is physically bigger and will have a sticker that says 135amp (obviously lol)

I put a alternator off an explorer on my 99 3.0 once to diagnose a noisey alt. and it bolted right up. If i remember, it came off an 90-94 explorer.

New question!!

I don't like starting new threads when there are ones already started from the past.
So here's my question..

I've been reading up a bunch on alts and interchangeability, and while I did find a lot of info, I did not find an answer to my actual question.
Now, this forum has that nice " Ranger Alternator list/grid ". On this page, under that list there is a quick piece of info about a 97 f250 alt fitting a 91 4.0 stx with minor wiring changes.

I have a 97 4.0 splash...
will a 99 f250 fit the same way?

I can post a pic. It's mounted on the right side looking under the hood, instead of the left like my ranger, but the mounting holes look the same from what I can see.

Thanks guys.

Beats me. The 4.0 alternator never really changed, so that isn't much of a concern.

Get on a parts store website and compare the part numbers for the 250 alternators, and if they are the same it will work.

Well if I'm not mistaken, the person that did the 97 f250 had to rewire because of the wiring or connectors being a bit different, so i don't think they will actually have the same part numbers, but I could be wrong.
I'll double check soon here.
Thanks for the reply.

Anybody else happen to have any shareable info on the subject?

You have completely misunderstood my instructions.

Ignore the 4.0 alternator. I know it isn't going to be the same as the 250 alternator.

Compare the part numbers of the alternators for the F-250s in question, like I told you to do, and see if they are the same.

My bad.

Doesn't matter anyhow, the person that used the 97 f250, if i remember right, got it off a 5.4l motor, and the person that had the listing for the 99 f250 supposedly could not check what motor it was, but I could clearly tell it was different -even in the terrible pics.
So there was no way to look up the part number and therefore, no way to accurately compare the two, unless every motor in 99 f250s had the same alt..which is possible, but I doubt.

Regardless, I found another good deal, so went a different route.
The only reason I wanted that one is because it was literally $20 shipped plus warrantee.

Thanks anyhow.

The new one should actually be here tomorrow or Monday, and it even has the single wire connection, unlike the other.

I might just go ahead and post if everything works, as it should.
There are a few other things I'm working on that may find their way here soon also..
