Well it already has a 302 in it first of all and I want a 302 for 2 reasons:

LOTS of aftermarket support

I dont like that 4.0L POS enigne

It needed an engine as the 2.3 parted with one of its rods and I needed a working truck.

I would rather walk than install another 2.3 and I could get the entire 1988 Town Car for the price of just a used 4.0L and I like V8's so it all just added up.

Wile the 302 form the town car has alot of power it seems as though its being held back by the cam and the auto trans.

I will drive it untill I save up enough money to swap in a better 302 and a manual trans so that is why I am asking.........

In my experience (the green truck...) an EFI 5.0 HO get much better mileage than the 4.0 OHV 5sp. And since I'm aware of 4.0SOHC mileage, you're looking at close to 10 MPG better than that pig, too with an EFI 5.0
Windows up, of course! :icon_thumby:

As far as swapping cam on a Speed Density setup, this is really the one thing you can't do. The SD setup was used at least through the '92 Lincoln Mark VII LSC, but I'm not sure if the profile of the cam changed any.
The SD system relies on engine vacuum to the MAP/BP sensor, that's why the don't run well with a more agressive cam. On a mass air car, the vacuum port is plugged on this piece.

My credo
If you can't go through it or around it, then go over it.
it aint no thing to convert from SD to MAF....... and there are aggressive aftermarket cams for the SD 302/351..........

So are E6SE heads consitered good flowing or not??

Also what all the damn cams available what would work the best for my app??

Here is what I would like out of a cam:

• I have speed desnsity and intend on keeping it first of all
• I want low end grunt, not high rpm
• Cheap
• Decent fuel mileage
• I dont want a cam that was designed with emissions in mind!!
• A stock cam ford put in a 302 from the factory would be sweet if it meets my criteria because it would be cheap and available but if something aftermarket would work better then I have no problem going that route.
The E7TE heads offer 25 more hp over the E6SE heads. As for what you want in a cam, the HO, F4TE (this is the Explorer cam) and the Cobra GT40 cam (these are a hard to find item) all offer what you want. The HO cam has been proven to support over 400 HP with good heads. The F4TE is only a slight step behind it in profile as is the case with the GT40 cam. The F4TE and the HO are the easiest to find. The HO grind went thru 4 very minor changes over it's production run, but never enough to change the HP ratings. The F4TE cam was used in the 94-97 E & F series trucks and vans and later in the 96 to 2001 Explorer/Mountaineer 5.0. Also used in the roller 351's.
