I picked up a 2000 Explorer 8.8 axle with 4.10 gears to match the new gears I have coming for the front.

I hope to have it installed by next weekend.

i thought the 8.25 was a decent axle? i know the 8.8 is probably better, just wondering

The 8.25 is a decent axle, but it more disadvantages than the 8.8.

For instance, it would have cost me more to buy the gears and install kit to regear the 8.25 than to buy the 8.8 and install it. The 8.8 also has a lot more aftermarket following with parts being cheaper than the 8.25.

Got almost all of the trail damage repaired. I just need to find a head light bezel and I will be done.

I also cut out the fender a little different than the driver side. I cut it out to where the top of the fender flare would have been. I need to flex out the front to see if it is enough. I am on the hunt for another red driver side fender so I can cut it out the same way.

Replacing the driver door window was a ton easier than I expected. Got the new window out of the spare door and into my XJ in about an hour total.
thats what i did on my 98 and 89...the fronts were cut to the top of the factory flare and the rears i just did the normal cut and fold

looks like a few of us from down here and a few from cincy area will be at DTOR april the 23rd...think you can make it?

I will probably be able to pull that off on April 23. I have to work on the 22, but I could make it down there by about 10:30 or 11.

PM me your contact info and I will get a hold of you when I get close or get there.

I'm getting ready for the 4.10 swap as well, I even-swapped a comanche guy for a spare set of 3.55 axles I had.:headbang:

Oh and here's a picture of what happens when you get too brave :D

I got the rear fenders cut out to allow clearance for the tires.

Yea, that is what I think too. Just having the fender flare holes gone make it look a ton better.
