Hello all,

I was cutting something when my knife slipped and slit my thumb open...bleeding like a mofo. What should I do besides applying pressure to the cut?

clean it and put a band aid or bandage on it, then use tape to hold it on tight

also holding the cut above the heart can help

one time i was cutting duct tape and the knife caught and then slipped making a small cut in my chest, I laughed and put the fresh cut piece of tape over the cut.

I always keep this stuff on hand, it's like a powder and it's for when you're bleeding good and it doesn't want to stop. Keep some at home an keep some in my truck and hope I don't have a cut bad enough to need it. Stuff I got is called Urgent QR.

For most cuts and stuff, I just clean it out good with Hydrogen Peroxide and then Duct Tape it.

Couple years back I was building a tie retaining wall and had a mis-strike with the sledgehammer.... but don't worry, my finger kept the spike from damaging the handle of the sledge...sliced my finger right down to the bone though in a nice half moon shape. Hurt so bad that I didn't even feel a difference in pain when we dumped peroxide on it. Pinched it shut, duct taped it closed, took a couple shots of Jack Daniels and went back to work. Probably should have had it stitched, but....

Long ago I was putting a differential into my 64 Chevy rear when it slipped and landed on my thumb;actually one of the teeth sliced to the joint. I still have a nice V for victory scar on my right thumb to remind me of the event.

I think that powder that lil_Blue_Ford mentioned is called styptic powder. Vets use it a lot for bleeding when they trim animal claws, hoofs, and such.:icon_cheers:

Yea, couldn't think of the universal name for the stuff, got too much other stuff on my mind with trying to get my truck all fixed up and order parts an such, what a mess that is.

I just wrap it with a piece of shop towel & use electrical tape, its easier to work with than duct tape! :icon_thumby:

Keep on working & replace as needed :icon_cheers:

Pour some salt directly into the cut, the squeeze half of a lemon or lime on top of the salt. The juice will melt the salt into smaller particles which will block the tiny veins that are letting out all of you precious blood.

I vote Krazy Glue. I've bandaged and taped and krazy glued, and the glue worked the best for me. No big scabs to get torn off, and smaller scars.

You could always just let it bleed till it stops.... I had a laborer get hasty trying to load a roll of rusty wire mesh on the truck last year an he gave it a good shove as I jumped in the bed. Tore up my leg pretty good. I was also the only one there that could operate the machine an we had to do a couple things with it yet then load it up an move it. So since my legs are pretty hairy and I didn't have a clean rag to tape over it, I just carried around a wad of paper napkins (stolen from a fast food joint) to sop up the blood, lol.
