Is it somewhat common for them to fail on the the older ohc 4's? I've seen a few Mustangs online lately they either have had a new HG put on, or needs a new one.

Haven't seen a lot of head gasket issues with the 2.3/2.5 Lima engines, valve train issue on some.

When cooling systems get older they will often cause overheating which will cause head gasket issue but on any engine.

It's more common to crack a head than blow a head gasket from my memory over the years... in over 100k on my truck I've had a cracked head (that didn't seem to cause much of an issue so it wasn't very bad...) and I don't blame it with all the hose failures I'd had...
