Just found and installed a m5od, out of a 95 or 97 ranger, into my 93 ranger. The trouble I am having now is that I had to put my old shifter ball into the newer trans. It seems like the rod that goes into the trans is about 1/4" too short. Does anyone know what the distance from the bottom of the shifter ball to the very end of the shift lever is? Mine is 1 7/8". I can get it into 1 and 2, but when I try to go into the 3 and 4 shifter rail it seems to just slip by the rail front to back. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You need the shifter assembly from the newer tranny to work with that transmission. The '93 shifter will not work.

You could also swap over the top cover from your old tranny in order to use your current shifter, which may be a better option. If I remember correctly, the newer m5od's did not have the neutral position switch on them.

I didn't want to hear that!! Could I possible find one to put in without pulling my tranny again? The tranny that I got didn't have the shifter in it. The "mechanic" I got the tranny from said that mine would work! I am very upset with him.

If you decide to use your shifter/tower instead of finding the "newer" shifter, you may be able to change it over without removing the tranny, by removing the crossmember so that it can drop down and by removing the floor plate that the shifter boot mounts to.

Personally, I would just call an autowrecker and get a shifter that will work with your new tranny.
