got some parts in today:

BCG, looks like it'll work for now. i'll upgrade later and throw it in another build most likely.

16" barrel and generic muzzle brake

stripped upper and dust cover

they were a little off on color, so i duracoated the lower od green (well, as close as i could get it)

the pics brighten up the green, it's actually a little darker. i like it. it'll look good once i get a FDE magpul buttstock.

gas tube and gas block will be here tomorrow. then i just need the rail and barrel nut to complete.

You're getting close! I know the feeling of being so close yet so far away from a working AR.

make sure you line the gas block/gas tube up correctly. I installed mine a bit off and it wouldn't cycle properly, made me so made before i figured out the issue. Just use some calipers and measure to make sure.

It was lined up side to side spot on, but i installed it a little to far back. it needs to be a little bit away from the shelf in the barrel

this is the WRONG way to install it (notice the no gap between the block and shelf)

this is the RIGHT way (notice the gap)

My credo
I need more sleep.
I've been trying to find a different muzzle brake for my M&P 15, but the thing is, the threads are weird. Nothing fits on it! I even tried a golf ball launcher and it didn't fit. It's just a weird thread type. A lot of people are confused by it, and usually have to make their own homemade one.

i'd call S&W, it should be 1/2x28, standard for AR type platform. i bet it would be cheaper to just buy a new barrel than have a custom brake made. that would piss me off.

decided i wasnt a fan of the black upper and green lower, so i painted the upper to match.

got my vise block for the upper too...pretty nice for $7

still need the rail and barrel nut. i figured out it's coming from china :annoyed:
i would've rather just paid more to buy it from someone here and have it already.

i had to mix up the batch of paint i used, i dont know if i have enough to do it. we'll see. gonna try it on there first. if i tape off the rails and just paint the smooth part, i should have enough.
