Hey my name is Dan and I really need some help with my project. I am in the finishing stages of my 1983 ranger 2.8l project.

Info on the truck:
2.8l engine just rebuilt top end
4 speed manual transmission
4x4 transfer case
6 inch suspension lift
3 inch body lift
single fuel tank model
33' Dakota tires

I am no expert on fords but can definatly turn a wrench. I need help figuring out the alternator setup on the truck. I have the alternator and the long adjuster bracket, but that is all. I cannot figure out what else is needed to fasten my alternator to the engine. I can not see what is needed in pictures. Do I need the air/ smog pump and another bracket. Or is there a way to get by with just a bottom bracket. PLEASE HELP!!!!

I would really like someone who can text pictures or talk to me on the phone to help me if I cannot figure something out. Please help me finish my project!

My number is 989-350-8201. Feel free to call or text anytime.

It is not wise to post your phone number on these forums you can do that with your private messages. Are you still running the computer? You dont need the air pump unless you need to pass smog you will need to plug the crossover tube on the back of the heads. The alternator just swivels on the bottom thru bolt and is tightened with the upper bracket then tighten the lower bolt. Finding the belt size without the air pump would be a trial and error thing maybe use the power steering belt to help you determine the proper size. 1 inch can make or break the fit. If you dont need to pass smog do the duraspark now and bring it to life. Is it needs smog then good luck you have alot of research to do!

Is there a bracket for the bottom though? Maybe one that connects to both the air pump and alternator? Because I know the bottom of the alternator doesn't just swivel on the block. lol

What did you do with the bracket or was it never there? You may get lucky and find one at the bone yard but those parts are getting real hard to find. Around here in WA the cars with carbs are the first to the crusher!

Yes you need a bracket at the bottom. As for the new belt, i just took the old one into autozone and asked for a smaller one. I would get a rope though and go around the two pulley's to get a accurate size so you don't have to go back and fourth several times like i did.

That's the bracket. Both the alternator and smog bolt into it. The top set of holes (as indicated in the picture), are where the bottom of the alternator bolts in. There is another set of holes (directly below the alternator ones, smaller width)...this is where the smog bolts in, if you're going to use it.
