My daughter has a HP Pavilion DV4. The lid is completely coming apart, but it works fine. She can't close the lid though and it's taped together. Is there any way to get a new case/lid?

It looks like the (2) mounting spots in the bottom two corners where it's screwed in is brake and the hinged section is messed up.

Jim,

USUALLY what happens is the screws that mount the hinges to the back cover work loose and the screw pillars break out, often other mayhem like cables getting chaffed by the hinges happens as collateral damage to the original failure.

Generally if you search by computer models you can find people selling parts for every computer but the very newest ones.

I'd personally recommend searching for a complete display already assembled with back cover and front bezel and hinges.

Something like this:

This one might be good, but you'd have to get the inverter board out of your old one
(The inverter board is the power supply for the flourescent display backlight)

Even with that unless you are relatively exerienced with getting laptops apart and back together you can still break other things in the process.

the Video cable and WiFi antannae cables need to be properly routed into little plastic cable raceways and this is usually a major PITA

there are several guys besides myself who would probably be very comfortable ressurecting your notebook if all the correct parts were in the same room...
