On the 97 2.3 I just bought, I discovered it needed a starter after hearing tooth grinding on cold morning startup. I bit the bullet and bought a new (not rebuilt)Remy starter. Put it on this morning, pretty easy compared to older Ford starters. (The old one had broken its washer and was about to explode.) And just my luck, after three starts the new starter's solenoid locks up and won't stop cranking. I had to stall it in gear to stop the starter.
Is there any other common problem with the starting circuits on these things, besides just getting a bad new starter? Ignition switches? Ground problem? It has to be electrical, since the starter kept cranking even with the key off.
