A friend of my wife was trying to get rid of his 1992 truck. It had a dead battery and he didn't feel like messing with it, so 500 bucks later and I have it.

So howdy all!

One newbie question... How do I know what size engine I have? It says XLT on the side, and it is a V6. I'm poked around and determined its either a 2.9 liter or a 3.0 liter. How do I know for sure?

Thanks!

Thanks, yeah I feel dumb now. The sticker that shows the belt routing says its a 3.0 L EFI engine. Yay. Any common problems I should be aware of with this engine? I'm actually a pretty good wrencher, and I like to head off problems before they start if I can.

If that engine has Oil and Coolant, it should last forever! :icon_thumby:

Have you gotten it started yet?
Has it been sitting a while?

A tune-up may be in good order.

It had been sitting for a month or two, but yes, I got it started. I bought a new battery for it yesterday and it starts up every time.

So here is the list of things wrong with it so far:

Battery: fixed

Front bumper is bent inward in the middle, but not too bad, plus it is angled down. Is it possible to take it off and hammer it back into shape?

Half the dash doesn't light up.

No radio, but it does have a sub, aftermarket speakers, and an amp.

When we were trying to jump it the first time to get it home, I noticed that the coolant was just about empty, so I refilled it, but I haven't figured out where the leak is yet.

The CEL is on constantly while driving. I think I'm gonna have to figure out an easy way to pull the codes on it.

No center console.

This may be related to the CEL, but it idles really rough. It almost died when I was sitting in line at Jack-in-the-box.
