Hey all the names David and I've got an 89 Ranger with the 2.3 and more ignition problems than I can count.

Welcome :)

1989 2.3l Ranger was the first year that engine came distributorless, which actually made it more reliable than the old distributor/TFI ignition system.

4cyl, 8 spark plugs and dual coil packs.

There were problems with the ICM(ignition control module) located on the front of the intake manifold.

And just a heads up, only the exhaust side spark plugs working when starting the engine, the intake side spark plugs/coil won't start sparking until engine RPMs are above 400.
