Hello, I have a 1988 Ford Ranger Custom that won’t start. I know it’s because of the fuel pump because I don’t hear it prime at all. No power is being sent to it and I tested the fuel pump itself to see if the motor was the problem but no, it works just fine when I send 12 volts directly to it. Ive tried so many things to see what else is the problem from the inertia switch to the relay but I’m out of options and don’t want to take it back to the mechanic. Any and every advice/suggestion is recommended. Thank you

Fuel pump gets power from the ECM.

Check for 12v at the relay...if youre not getting juice there then its either the ECM, the wire between the relay and ECM, or maybe the ECM ground.

There is a fuel system test port. On the ecm diagnostic connector you can apply a ground to the test port and qith key on should run the pumps. The relay should have two power supplys 1 always hot 1 key on hot. The ecm supplys the ground closing the circuit sending power to inertia switch and pumps.

Change the fuse first. I spent a day troubleshooting my dead fuel pump problem and changing the fuse, that looked perfectly fine but for some brown stuff on the top of the pins. Once I did that, the truck fired right up. It made for a very frustrating day.
