So, on the lower part of the dash, I got that strip on either sides of the steering wheel with a majority of the warning symbols and stuff. And I just installed a new bulb because there was a bulb missing behind the "LOW RANGE". And it made me think, why would there be bulbs behind the 4x4 and Low Range if I have buttons above my radio that light up when I push the buttons?

I have seen many instrument clusters with lenses that are not used and have no bulbs in them. I guess they used the same assembly for many different levels of trucks with many different options, but only the one single part for all of them.

My credo
Toonces drives a Ranger . . . . just not very well.

The 86 I owned had those lights functional with a manual transfer case. It also had a "Water in Fuel" light. I'm guessing for the diesel option that year.
