ranger problems

working on 89 2.3 with dis ignition dual coils truck idles real eradic changed fuel pump egr valve changed plugs also changed one of the coils tried new computer fuel filters four new injectors cleaned iac valve while i was changing the coil i started the engine with the serpentine belt off it idled almost perfect put the new coil on put the belt back on idle went crazy took belt back off idled near perfect does anyone have a solution thanks also its a five speed truck

yeah check accessories. power steering pump, water pump, alternator. whatever is driven by the belt.

i have i know its not the smartst move but i reassembled everthing and with the engine running i un plugged the alternator and it idled near perfect?

Haha, I was about to suggest that the alternator might be doing something stupid.

With the alternator hooked up and the engine running, check the AC an DC voltage at the battery. A bad diode can allow AC bleed through and make it do weird stuff. Also, a bad regulator can amp up voltage in the system which can screw with sensor readings, making it do weird stuff.

pilled alternator off carried to local parts house it checked perfect have looked for loose body grounds cant find anything was hoping some of you good ol ford boys might have expierenced this

our newer alternators have voltage regulator built in, the older trucks are seperate. I had a regulator blow "open" on me and allowed too much voltage and fried my battery, it was twilight zone, radio on off, wipers on off, etc. maybe check that, other wise start checkinig your groundwires. all of them that you can find.

just replaced the altenator still have the same problem it seems even worse aint that the luck really need this thing fixed

just for kicks check the wiring harnesses from the coilpacks and the alternator where they meet looking for frayed shorted/ melted together wiring..

If the alt was replaced and still having problems check the systems ground wires, including the starter wires. something is maybe loose.
