I am in the process of running a new brake line to the rear brakes on my 1992 Ford Ranger XLT 4.0L Automatic. I want to remove the line from the master cylinder and plug the hole for now. What size and thread pattern do I need to get?

If you simply plug the master, you will lose your ability to stop. You won't be able to push the pedal down.

Not so. I already have the back brake line clamped off. I still have front brakes. I want remove the line and plug it for now while I work on the brake hardware.

find a nail the suitable size to fit down the line, remove line from master, install nail in line, reinstall line on master. Did it when I was too broke to fix my brakes the right way, it has long since been repaired properly.
