2025 Expedition.

I know i can be fickle but can we all agree this is just beyond stupid? Not only does it ruin an otherwise pretty nice looking dash/layout but its just...obnoxious.

That would be a bit much. Even for someone like me. The 9 inch in my current truck took a bit much to get used to.

I don't mind 🤷‍♀️ seems pretty future-y. Sure as hell wouldn't want to pay to fix it once it breaks though lol

I didn't ask for your life story, just answer the question!
I’m sure they coulda fit a bigger screen in there.

Toonces drives a Ranger . . . . just not very well.
My newest trucks are 30 years old this year. My oldest truck is 40 years old this year.

They still work just fine, for transportation. And for my personal satisfaction in their use and maintenance.

I just don't see these new vehicles, loaded with digital tech, making it past 10 years before they break badly and are not worth fixing.

A lot of the electronics won't be available for repair parts, and I don't see the car makers supporting them past the "best by" date.

And yes, the Olympic sized screen in the new Expedition is uglier than a hat full of assholes.

If you don't have time to do it right will you have time to do it over?
If that screen is just for the back up camera, it's still useless to me -I use the mirrors. Unfortunately, I suspect it's a touch screen and doesn't belong in a vehicle. There should be no controls in a vehicle that you have to look at to use, tyou should be able to operate all the controls in the dark by feel. The driver should be looking through the windshield and not staring at the dash.

That is beyond way too much. The ones about the size of a iPad or Android tablet are too much. What's the quote Spaceballs? They've gone plaid!

In theory, theory and practice are the same. In practice, they are different.
I wonder if all the light from that will mess with your night vision looking out at the road.

Sooner or later, they are going to want to replace all the windows with large touch screens...

Deengineer until it is how Blue Oval should have sold it!!
My buddy has a brand new car, it's a hybrid; he only drives 11-20 miles a day and charges it every day yielding him over 800mpg (not discussing his electric bill, as he charges it at home).

He and his wife are my age, their children are adults that do not live with them. Their new car is a 5 seater with a rather larger television set built into the dash but what really gets me are the dual 13" screens behind the front bucket seats. There is never anyone in the rear seats and those screens are always on???

Because infotainment systems are designed and implemented In a fashion our overlords deem safe 🤷‍♀️ and they are... for the overwhelming majority of people. no function can take more than 2 seconds to perform, and require more than a glance... way less than a phone requires for just about anything... simple.

It's funny though.. the older generations wheeze on about how "bah.. I can't figure out how to do anything with this confounded piece of technology!... I swear I'm gonna have an accident just trying to change the radio station!"

Backwards it's just about the same thing..

Put a freshly licensed teen in a vehicle made before the early 90s, send them on their way, and then tell them to find AND make a pre-set for their favorite station on the vehicles analog radio... kids definitely gonna wind up in the ditch 😆
