Hello,

I think I am finally going to do a 302 swap in a Ranger. Not in my daily driver though, I want to use an extended cab first or second generation Ranger for the swap. Before starting getting parts and everything, I had a few questions.

Are those V8 conversion kits worth buying? The one they have at Jeg's looks like a good deal, as it comes with Hedman headers, oil filter relocation kit, and the motor mounts for $388.

What makes for an easier swap, a carburated 302 or fuel injected 5.0?

Will a radiator from an 80's 5.0 Mustang work good with the swap? The only reason I ask is because I found one for free.

What do I have to do to ensure that the swap will be emissions legal in Oregon?

Thanks for your answers.

well it depends on you!

It really depends on your fabrication skills to determine how hard things are gonna be! The kits work well! And reduce the cutting and grinding and all the mathematical equations to figure out who where what and why! My ranger has a 95 cobra motor that was swapped to Carb with MSD dist. It was done with home made swap brackets which turns out to be one of the few things the past owner did right! With out the swap headers you'll probally end up having to hack up you front frame section to make room for exuast! the Carb set up is a little easier for some people due to less wiring but the EFI set up can be more efficient! I have the factory 95 cobra radiator in mine so if your good a :icon_welder:fabricating:icon_welder: you should be able to make it work! :icon_cheers:

Thanks DangerRanger5.0,
Yeah I have some good fab skills, I just don't have a welder at my place. I will probably get a swap kit just to simplify things. I found a 5.0 from an 88 Mustang GT for $400 with the AOD tranny, it sounds like a hell of a deal to me! I just gotta make sure he has the engine harness and computer though.

What do you do about the exhaust pipes though? Does anyone know what I would have to do to make it Oregon emissions legal?
