Do you know if we can swap a ‘11 to a 99 and that it would be the exact same thing you have to deal with, since the engine '03 are the same as '11... are they? 99 ECU is still interchangeable with an '11?
Hey Cauhcons (porky), you don't mention what kind of tranny you'll be using. Also why are you doing the swap? For economy or just a winter project?

I'm looking for the same info for the following reasons. I have a '00 ranger 2wd with the 4.0 engine and 5 speed auto tranny.

I get 13 -14 mpg highway. My buddy has a '11 Ranger 2wd with the newer 4.0 engine and 5 speed manual tranny. He claims to get 25 - 28 mpg highway. If an engine swap can get me 10 more mpg I'll do it in a heartbeat! In the great white north we are paying over $5.00 a gallon for gas. We need to squeeze the fuel dollar till the last nickel screams.

I'm not sure where the fuel savings happens. Is it the newer engine with manual tranny or just the engine alone. Is the old 4.0 with auto tranny that inefficient?
