I've searched and read a few threads but it appears no one comes back and shares their fix.
I'm pretty sure my chain in my '93's t-case is stretched. I heard a pop a few weeks ago and figured it was my auto hubs going out. Today I was at the hunting club and had to stop on a steep hill. I engaged 4-low and came off the clutch. It popped a couple of times but continued forward. I think I pin-pointed it to the t-case and feel that my chain is stretched. I read in one thread about draining my fluid and insert a screwdriver to see if I can move the chain off the gear. I'm going to do this and see what I get.
Some of my searches resulted in the general consensus to replace the t-case.
I think its nuts to replace it with a junkyard unit if its a worn out chain. Who's to say the unit from the junkyard does not suffer the same issue or is near failure itself.
I'm not bashing you guys and I'm not sure of costs yet, but surely its not that expensive of a fix and you'd have a better unit than an unknown junkyard piece.
I will update this in the coming days/week as I get time to wrench on it.
