I just pulled the 3.0 and trans out of my 98 Ranger Auto. I just put in the 4.0 and trans. It seems the trans shaft will not work with the 3.0 transfer case.

I believe the trans and motor 4.o to be out of a 97 Exploder. I have the transfer case from the Xploder, its nbd, just wondering if anyone knew for sure it was different size?

Also for my SAS. I have a 78 Bronco D44. will the stock UJoints bolt right in?

I know i saw the size camparisons somewhere but dont remember where.

Any help would help me get my truck back on the dirt. Thanks guys

My credo
I didn't ask for your life story, just answer the question!
It should fit fine. Both transmissions use the same size and spline output shaft. As a matter of fact all 4x4 Ranger transmissions use the same size and spline output shaft from 83+.

It should bolt right up, i just put a case from a 96 4.0 case in my 99 ranger with a 3.0 and it bolted up just fine.

keep the drive shaft out of the 78 and the one out of the ranger and put them together to make one. Thats what I did anyways.

I've heard of people welding driveshafts together before but was't sure of durability. I plan on running a locker someday up front.

I took the yoke that goes to the axle and the slip yoke that goes the the t-case Cut and re-tubed the hole thing. Custom made drive shaft. did the same for the rear. fortunately I have access to a lathe. So far ist done me justice but its only bean about 3 months since I did the swap.

this is the rear I don't have a pic of the front but same Idea.
