Hey everyone, ok so from the top, my truck started making a big loud clunk when I turned right, then it does it when I turn left. It feels like it's my rear end or my drive train. Now it does it all the time, turning, slow strait after a turn, fast after a turn. It's not a constant clunk just one big pop and done till it happens again on the next corner.
Truck is an 2003 fx4 level 2 manual trans, manual t case, torsion locked rear end. 230k km on everything, all stock.
The sound started a month after I installed my spare tire since. My front driver had a slow slow leak. But it started that odd clunk, I thought it was something wrong with my rear end popping instead of dragging a tire. I greased my slip yoke as well hoping that would help after I read that a few times. Last week I aired up my tires and that's when I noticed, my spare is a 265/70/16 and all my tires are 265/75/16. My tire guy must have messed up when I ordered my rims and that one tire for a spare.
So now with that brought to my attention I looked into how the manual t cases operate and seems that even when in 2 wd my t case still spins my front drive and my rear drive at the same speed ( acts like a limited slip when not in 4 wd ) I may be wrong but that's why I'm asking. Makes sense why it started happening when I turning because one tire is spinning slower then the other, but with one smaller they'd both turn fast turning left, and really fast to normal slow when turning right.
I put my other tire back on, but sounds the exact same, seems like the damage is already done. What should I do from here, tomorrow night I'm going to drain the fluid and see if there are metal chunks or see if my plug has anything stuck to it.
My ranger friend has a local ranger junkyard and he has a 03 or 02 manual t case for a great deal for me. 550 used and a lot lower than that for me he said, be a direct swap. So it's that or I pay to get this one rebuilt.
Any ideas if what it may be other then the t case. I feel my driveline kinda skip when it clunks, rear axle still drags a tire like normal. The clunk comes from behind me, it's not a ball joint or a bearing noise.
Thanks for the help.
