Sorry if this is not the right spot for this question. Has anyone bought this package? I have never tuned my own vehicles in the past, does this look like a decent value? I would appreciate any feedback thanks.

That is why my brother went Ford Racing (pre Ford Performance) for a tuner on his Mustang.

Came with the programmer and a drop in K&N style air filter.

I agree with above, if you are going to go with a tuner, go with one that will not void your warranty. It's more expensive but since the warranty stays in tact, might be worth the cost.

You can get a tune from FPP and get a 3 year warrany... but you can't tow anything with the truck if it has the tune.... Pretty damn stupid, right?

They probably change more than the engine, like shift points which make it more fun on the street but less useful for towing. You've also now pushed the engine to its limit for so using it for work is just too much strain. I don't think it's dumb at all, I think its actually pretty gracious of ford to even offer any warranty.

We are talking about a 2.3 duratec that had 190hp? And they pumped it with the tune to 325hp? Only so far you can go before the thing is flat out unreliable. Plus you must use at least 93 octane with the tune. My crappy old duratec runs better on 93 without a turbo! So 93 is probably pushing it on a turbo tuned ecoboost.

Sure it changes shift points. But it seems to me that when you push the "Tow" button the programming should disable the parts of the tune that are an issue while towing.

I've run NGK plugs for years in all my motorcycles and my Lightning. I've never experienced one problem with them. Talking since the late 70's here. Only plugs I've ever had problems with were those stupid E3s. Didn't last 5000 miles in my Ranger and looked like crap when removed.

I ran a couple sets of NGK Iridium plugs in my old Sport Trac. Held their gaps well, no issues. Where you had a problem was in fact the E3 plugs. This is going way back to the early days of TRS but there were numerous discussions about plugs. The explanation is kind of complicated but basically multiple electrode plugs like E3's and Bosch +2 and +4 do not get along well with Ford's ignition system although they are fine on other cars.
Two firm rules to follow on late-model Ford plugs:
1. Use only double platinum or Iridium.
2. Do not use multiple electrode plugs.

They recently revised the tune because folks were... well.. threatening to sue and crazy stuff like that.

What the heck are they wanting tow that they need a tune so it will tow better? They aren’t one of those people that insist on not getting enough truck to do the job are they?

What’s the tow limit again? 7,500#? How much does the truck weight? I don’t think my Super Crew is 7,500# but I might be wrong. Towing equal to the weight of the tow vehicle or higher isn’t the best idea in my opinion.
