Has anyone found an ARP stud kit that fits a 2.9/4.0 that isn't the $400 kit from morana? I'm thinking about ordering some 12.9 hardware from mcmaster-carr to replace the TTY stuff they come with. My turbo truck keeps stretching head bolts and blowing head gaskets.

ARP has a kit for the 4.0 SOHC engine. While you might say that will not fit (I do not know if it will or not) it is still $423.15 directly from them. That sort of tells me if they did have the kit you needed, it would not be far from that price.

you're right, i'm just used to messing with 4cyl stuff. fewer head studs = cheaper kit.

A bolt-on solution for upgraded 2.9/4.0OHV head hardware has been found!

The ARP Head stud kit that's specified for a 2000cc lima/pinto 4cyl is a direct, no-mod fit. Kit #151-4201.

It comes with 10 studs, washers, and nuts. Two sets need to be ordered to fulfill all 16 studs that are needed in the v6 application. I got a pair of them from Summit, for about $100 cheaper than the kit Morana sells. And you get spares at the end of it. I used the torque specs that came with the kit. Three passes at 30, 60, and 90 ftlbs. They are a tad long at first, the bottom of the threads is pretty much flush with the bosses on the heads, but after stacking a gasket and the included washers into play, it's no issue. There may be a clearance issue with the front accessory brackets that bolt on top of the exhaust runners but a little bit of grinding is but a small sacrifice.

Thank you for coming back and posting your results. I don't have a 2.9L, but the same would likely work for the 2.8L if I ever messed with it again. Never had a problem with head bolts on my 2.8L, but "because race car..."

Are those torque to yield or are they reusable?
