I have a 91 2.9 ranger and found a newer model explore 5.0 4x4 for my project. When yu use a newer computer and engine harness do you have to run obd II aystem with it?? What all will i have to wire obd II into on my 91? Been researching and all ive found is its easier to mod dash to fit in my ranger then to just wire obdII in my truck. But i rather not do that.

Power and ground, same as any other swap.

The Engine harness/ECU/trans functions are pretty much self contained, so it's easier than it sounds. No part of the truck/dash needs to be modified.
Exceptions being the fuel system, depending the year of Explorer.

The PATS system can be bypassed with a tune or handheld tuner. You can use any year of Explorer 5.0 (available '96 to '01) but '96 and '97 may be best for you. Those years had no PATS system, and used a return style fuel system.
There's a useful chart in this article
http://www.therangerstation.com/tech_library/5_0_swap_in_newer_ranger.html

Again, there is no reason to touch the dash or column.

In yoyr link posted it says if if using pats systen in non pats ranger grab hole explore column. The explore im looking at is a 99 so it will have pats system. Should i get the explorer and just find a 97 fule rail and computer. Will the 99 wiring harness plug right into the 97 computer so there will be no pats dissabling to worry about? For i think for the price the explorer will be worth it.

That information is only if you want to utilize PATS. If you don't want to use it, you don't have to.

I'd be willing to swap you my 89 mustang ecu, harness and dizzy (including all sensors needed) for the 99 ecu, harness, and related...I need a 99-01 explorer for my v8 swap and I have a motor already, I just need the electronics. My motor is from my mustang that I wrecked, so i have the complete harness for the motor... Let me know if your interested

My credo
it is easier to fix and understand than "her"
moates 1/4 horse

worthy investment in time to learn and money. shitcanning pats is the least of its capabilities.
