94 Ranger XLT 3.0. These things have been hanging off since before I bought this thing five years ago. Looks like they rotted off. The line attaches straight to the valve cover and it's been causing a pretty good vacuum leak.

Evap line. Bottom pic is the charcoal canister, top pic is the purge solenoid.

Line goes back to the gas tank.

Mine has rotted away as well, but there is a vacuum hose that is preformed into a 90 degree bend. The opening on the end that hooks to the charcoal canister is bigger than the end that connects to the purge valve.

While hunting vacuum leaks I recently realized I don't have any of that on my 94. Got the canister and nothing else no hose, valve. Can't even find the connector for the evap valve. I'm slowly hunting down the parts to replace. Does your 94 have just the purge valve or does it have a purge valve and a purge flow sensor?

My 97 has both. I think the pre 95 just has the purge valve.

Could be wrong...

1994 will have both Purge valve and pressure(purge) sensor on the same hose

Charcoal canister is connected to the gas tank by a long hose

Computer opens purge valve to apply engine vacuum to the canister/gas tank
The pressure sensor is between valve and canister
Computer monitors the pressure sensor to see if system is holding negative pressure

Computer opens and closes purge valve to maintain a slight negative pressure in the system to pull out gas fumes caused by the gas sloshing around in the tank while driving

Engine/intake-----purge valve-----sensor----canister-------------gas tank

When you stop for gas you should hear a sucking in sound of air when you open the gas tank, that's the sound of a working EVAP system :)

Yes, in 1995 and up the Rangers EVAP system got more complicated and it was moved to behind the gas tank
