I have a 99 ranger 2.5 manual and an 02 mustang 3.8 automatic. I would like to put the 3.8 in the ranger. Will the 3.8 bolt up to the m5r1 manual transmission? I know I will need a flywheel and clutch.

No, the 3.8 has the same bolt pattern as the 5.0, so the 2.5 manual won't bolt up

However, the 3.8 will bolt up to the m5r2 as found in F-150s (once you have included the required flywheel and clutch) .

there are 2 different bell housing patterns for the 3.8
small block, & FWD
the FWD is the same as a 3.0 Vulcan

neither match the 2.5

But does the FWD 3.8 bolt into longitudinal mount? At least the RWD version bolts in like an Explorer V-8.

good question.
I had a 3.8 block from a '95 taurus and tested the bell housing.
don't remember what the motor mounts looked like, and disposed of that block a few years ago.

EDIT: found info that says they are different

and... there are 10 different 3.8 blocks
