I am just wondering what you guys think of buying any kind of vehicle that was previously salvaged and then rebuilt. If you would buy it, how much under Blue Book Value is it worth?

It depends, on how the truck looks and runs. My truck has a salvage title and it runs pretty dang well.

Once they start getting older than a couple years it starts getting really easy to total them. I had a little hail damage on my truck that totaled it regardless of the fact that it had just been restored, and has low miles on it for an 86.

As for price it depends on the condition, and if it is someone i know or not. If it is in great mechanical shape, and i know teh guy i would be willing to pay with in a couple hundred bucks of the blue book price.

If i don't know the guy, or the history of the truck thats a different story. and it basicly comes down to i would have to see the truck.
Do you have some examples of a rebuilt salvage title truck.

My vehicle is a rebuilt/combo/patched together Frankenstein RBV...I would buy one after considerable inspection to see what was done...the only thing I would stay away from is frame damage...

I dont really have any examples. I was just wondering because i see a ton on craigslist alot. I was also just wondering if i would be able to sell it later on down the road if i needed to. I hit up auctions all the time.... steal a cheap vehicle... drive it for a year or so... sell it... make some money and then ugrade.... Its a viscous cycle...lol.

Depends on if my insurance company will cover it. Many will not if it has a salvage/rebuilt title. Best to check that before you buy.

Mainly just depends on it's condition and Price. I aint paying very much for a "salvage" title. There's basically no resale value, so I'd only get it if it was majorly cheap.

I called my insurance agent about my rebuilt and they didn't see any problems with it as long as it passes safety and emissons...not sure about salvage though...

Any automotive purchase is a gamble. If it has been salvaged and repaired it probably doesn't have suspension components that are ready to fail. A vehicle that has never been salvaged could.
The very best thing you could do is inspect the vehicle carefully. If you can't, find someone who can.
I have never paid more than $500 for a vehicle. I fix all my own stuff though.

I have rebuilt quite a few vehicles(look at my sig) but I only had one with a salvage title and I parted it out. I ussually sell them 1000-1500 under book.

It all depends on who did it and what the price is. I would fully inspect it first of course.

Only get one if you plan to keep it a LOOONG time.

As mentioned, the resale value is squat.

That said, you can sometimes get a good vehicle for little money.

Just make sure you really like it because it will likely stay with you.

thats how i bought my 88. owner said the insurance totaled it twice but he got it fixed. the body shop did a shitty job with the 3" of bondo on the extended part of the cab. theres no speaker there and interior panels are still broken. the cab is tweaked a bit but it isnt a crab

I would buy a salvage vehicle ONLY if i'm getting it for no more than scrap price and i'd have every single part from it up on ebay within the next couple of days.
