The later gold colored quick connectors are slightly larger than the older black ones. I read a post a while back on TRS where someone in this situation simply filed down the end of the gold quick disconnect to make it fit. I'm not recommending this method, but there it is for your consideration.
I would just get the newer gold line and be done with it.
Here is an update straight from the masters mouth.
Which clutch line to use with the M5OD-R1 depends on which slave cylinder you use.
The '85-87 slave from your early trans cannot be made to work.
The '88-92 "aluminum" slave uses the "black" coupler and the line used on all Ranger/Bronco2/Explorers up to the end of 1992.
in 1993 Ford switched to a glass reinforced plastic slave cylinder that
I believe is better than the earlier ones, but this requires a different
clutch line, one that uses a "gold" colored connector (they aren't compatible)
The "late" slave requires less fluid displacement and the '93-94 master cylinder is a smaller bore diameter (and uses a metal mounting "cup")
Using the '88-92 slave with the '93-94 slave cylinder is a receipe for
trouble and a clutch that cannot always be completely released.
making the combination the other way around results is a short stiff
clutch motion and once it works all the air out of the system pushing
the pedal firmly against the floor can actually break something
(either the master cylinder pushrod or the slave cylinder)
This is actually the combination that I run.
I don't like moving my foot that far to release the clutch.
as far as the T-case shifter? there are EIGHT distinctly different shifters used for the 13-50 T-case.
Only ONE of them will work with the mazda trans and it was not used on all '88-90 Rangers.... There are actually THREE shifters
used in this time period.
