First post!

Have an 89 Ranger xlt 5 speed, 2.9l V6 rebuilt. Runs ok (when you cut it off to run into a store and come back out and crank it up it tries to die unless you give it gas but I think that's just a fuel sensor). E brake cable broke today so decided to take a look and do an oil change. Noticed between the flywheel cover and where the bell housing mounts up, there's little bits of what looks like fiberglass sticking out of the housing and the transmission was warmer than I feel like it should be. Googled, can't find anything relating a 5 speed transmission and fiberglass... anyone have a clue what this is or why it would have been done? Bought it used with good maintenence records but you never know. Thanks

Probably snagged some insulation when the engine was replaced.

If I didn't know any better I would say maybe clutch material?

That's what I'm thinking too. If the clutch is shredding it can look like fiberglass. The structure of the material used for the clutch is very similar to a densely compressed fiberglass.

I would also concur with above:icon_thumby:
