o2 Sensor

Back in 1989 I installed Headers on my 86' w/ a 2.9 . we cut the wires thinking they didnt mean much. we were used to carburated stuff. every time i started it I held is at a 1,400 rpm until it cleared out the built up carbon, it ran better, but still seemed a little "off". after taking it to a diesel mechanic friend of ours, he was just schooled on the "New technology" after he put the new sensor and wires in it ran awesome !!! and even sounded better, and yes made a big difference on MPG. Currently on my 3rd 2.9 truck but my 4th ranger i've owned. my . the idea here is I run the 2.9 as long as I can, while rebuilding a 302fi , i plan to get. whats funny is this truck I just got ,has the same stuff I put on my 86' before it got wrecked.

Im going through the same crap on my B2 right now - 86 2.9 a4ld . New cap new rotor, new dist module, new wires, new plugs, new coil, new ACT Sensor, new tps, new temp sensor, new vacuum lines, no vac leaks, timing at 10 degrees, fuel pressure at 35 psi. Runs like a bag of shit at 50kmh, give it throttle it clears up and runs great. idles ok sometimes, others it surges almost to the point of stalling. KOEO DTC 54 IAC not with range, replaced cleared codes and drove, ran good for 10 mins and back to same shit. Is there a way to test an o2 sensor, i feel like an idiot replacing parts just to find out they dont change it. Truck has 132000km 50psi at cold idle 22psi at 190 degrees. please help.

Hi Jason, welcome to the forum...

With the fact that when you walk into it... it appears to run better for a bit...

two things... air cleaner... (filter that is) and the MAP sensor. MAP is Manifold Absolute Pressure... stomping on it... would drastically change the manifold pressure....

Just a thought...

My issue was a coil that looked like a plasma generator when looking under the hood while at night (dark) it glowed with a blue/purple tinge all around it.

You guys should pull the the throttle body and make sure the egr ports are not clogged. I screwed around 3 years for a 20.00 egr valve and a ton of carbon
