What did you do to your Ranger today? (Part Deux!)

You will need to put a probe on that circuit 12 to see if there is actually power there when you want high beams. My guess, as Cam has already stated, is that the multifunction switch is bad.

Thank you, thank you. I had a similar idea. I think I can access the back of one of the high beams and just see if there’s power there. Fortunately, you can still buy the multi function switch online for about $30.

Is it something I could take apart and clean the contacts? Actually, scratch that, I don’t think I’d want to fiddle that way with something that’s so critical. I have found that it’s nice to have lights at night.

It will have to wait for another day because I have too many things apart right now.

Yeah, I personally would just replace it. They are notorious for going bad, especially the high beam component. Given the availability of new ones, and the low cost, cleaning it isn't worth it in my opinion.

In other news, I went to LKQ today and got a power mirror switch and a a-pillar trim (without the "oh crap" handle, so I can mount gauges)

what does the torx nut do? does it like hold some transmission internals in place?

According to members and from the FSM, they “frown” upon touching the E-nut. I relate it to going down the rabbit hole. When I did the innards of the ‘M5R1’ I removed the whole Fifth and reverse shift lever (7243),Shift rail (7242), Shift lever Connecting pin (7F301), and counter lever assembly as part of the removal of the 5th/Reverse replacement, refresh.
The FSM: … “Note: Do not remove the Torx® nut retaining the shift lever connecting pin (7F301) at this time…”
I didn’t specifically follow the FSM to the letter. Now I have a nicely shifting 4 speed, with reverse and a very nice feeling clutch.

I attempted more fixes for the high idle in park/neutral on my ‘94 B4000 4x4 with no success. It’s been a tricky gremlin for about a week now, but I’m still determined.

I attempted to finalize the instalation of my new stereo. However, the dash kit I purchased will not snap into the dash bezel. Metra's website states it fits 95-2011, but they also have about two or three other single-din kits, all with poor reviews. I will probably order the Pac-audio kit tomorrow.

@Bill - every one of the double din stereo setups that I have seen have required some trimming of the dash bezel to actually fit. While the Ranger opening is nearly a double din, it is not actually quite that large.

I ordered the multi function switch for the 87 today. $24.

Cleaned it out for the first time in a year or two. Lubed all the seat rails and door hinges. And cut new floor mats.

BTW, These are worth every penny. They fit a 1st gen like they were made just for it and are durable This'll just be my second set since I've owned the truck. The passenger side wasn't even bad...

I'm aware of that. This is for a single DIN. This kit appears to be for vehicles wherein the stereo is supported by a rail above the stereo. The support rail on mine is below the stereo.

Yesterday I got the front axle reassembled, or at least the passenger side, didn't mess with the alignment yet... went for a test drive with the hubs locked, better than it was but still a vibration... might tackle the other U joint sometime this week...

Fiddled with the front end alignment some more. I think I'm happy with it until I get the new ball joints. Also greased all the zero fittings on my steering and suspension. Filled up with gas and also filled my Jerry cans. Getting ready for this weekend's camping trip at the Outer Banks, NC.
