Ok, I'm tired of searching. What is the stock spicer u-joint for the 1354 output. I've read 1310 but I also thought I heard something about later 1354s using 1330s or possibly even 1350s? If so, after what year did that start? I'm assuming that the output yokes could be switched over to my current case.

All 1354s ('90-'97) use a 1310 front u-joint yoke.

The rear output is a flange, which will accept a 1310, or 1330, depending on the driveshaft flange used.
The front output yoke and rear flange are interchangeable.

So you're saying that I could upgrade to a 1330 front by putting a 1330 flange from the rear on the front? Any specific years for the 1330 flanges? Part numbers?

BTW, thanks for the info.

You could put a rear flange on the front and then use a 1330 front driveshaft if you want, sure. I don't have any 1330 pt#s handy though, sorry.

No Ranger used 1330s on the front. I do believe some years F-150s did though (probably using a yoke as well, not a flange, not sure if those will fit the 1354 or not). '98up Rangers had 1330s on the rear however (I know Supercabs do anyway).

Honestly I don't see the need for 1330s as long as you're still running the 26 spline outputs though. With the proper gears for your tire size, the 1310s should never have a problem.

Hmm, guess I will just run em and see how they hold up. I have 40" tires with 4.10s and a t-case doubler. Don't know if I am ever going to upgrade gears with these axles, guess it depends on how I like the current combo.

4.10s isn't deep enough for 40s.

You'll want 5.13s minimum (5.38 preferred) to keep the stress levels down on the rest of the driveline (the 26-spline rear t-case output in particular).

Its a trail only truck so I don't need the gearing for daily driving. Don't really see what the problem is with the 4.10s other than it not crawling as well. The doubler makes up for that though. Problem with upgrading to 5.13s is that the pinion gets so damn small and fundage is low right now. A gear upgrade might be in the future but not for a while.

Shallow gears require far more torque to turn than deeper gears. This puts a much greater amount of stress on everything between those tires and your gear reduction within the t-case (this is more important off-road than on).

If you're keeping the 4.10s with 40s, then I suggest swapping in a bigger t-case that has larger output shafts and run the 1350 u-joints. IMO, the 1354 isn't up to that kind of a load.

BTW, aren't you running a D60 & 10.25"? (you should be with that size tire). The pinions on those axles should be more than sturdy enough, even at 5.38 (assuming you're running a V6 or mild V8).

Yeah, I have a 60 and 10.25 I know the gears on those are much stronger even at 5.13 than the stock axles or even Explorer axles. I am still running the stock 2.9 and don't plan on ever upgrading. Deeper gears would be nice but like i said, fundage is low. I still need to get a locker for the rear and an exo cage and on top of that the misses and I are expecting a little one in 8 months. By the way, did I mention we are also trying to save up for our first house. You can see that deeper gears is way down on the list of priorities right now.

Ahhh yea, that definitely would have an impact on the budget lol.

Well, good luck on it then (and on your house purchase too) :icon_thumby:
