How do you know that the coolant temp sensor has anything to do with the 3-4 shift? Is there somewhere in a manual that says so other than your anecdotal evidence about the sensor being partially unplugged? I'm not saying you're wrong but that sounds like a coincidence. I've driven a lot of RBVs with automatics and NONE of them have overdrive disabled until the engine gets up to temp..................... however plenty of them have had issues with shifting into overdrive for a lot of other reasons. That is a pretty common issue with A4LDs.

I could start a thread on it. I could also get the Motorcraft DY-1145 ECTS & remove the AM Santech (I think that's what it is).

The only thing a thermostat does is determine the minimum operating temperature the rest of the cooling system determines what the normal operating temperature will be. 1 thought on this subject if you live in a cold climate, I would think about the warmer one. On the oil pressure subject I would consider removing the rocker shaft assemblies and remove the plugs on the ends and clean out the sludge on the shafts. You have to remember that the oil flows from the rocker stands into the shafts and then the rockers then down the push rods to the lifters. so, if you have noisy lifters sludge in the rocker shafts could be your culprit.

As said an engine takes the same amount of time to reach 180degF regardless of what temp thermostat is used 180 or 190 or 200, engine reaches 180deg in the same amount of time
It just warms up more with a 190deg or 200deg t-stat
