Hi I have a 1986 Ranger 2.9L 2WD the front driver side steel brake line developed a pin hole. I got the truck home. I bought a new armor brake line. The problem is that of getting the old one off. 12 hrs of penitrating oil and the old line is still stuck. I got the front joint undone but the rear is a no go. Wrenches will not fit. Vise grips have stripped the brass fitting. What options do I have?

Heat. Hit it with a propane or MAPP torch.

When I did mine, I ended up cutting the flex line connector with a hack saw and just replaced everything...but heat might work better...I didn't have a torch when I did mine and didn't really care too much about being fancy...just wanted to spend more money than I had so I could say I replaced everything that was rusted...and I'm actually glad I did because after what I'd read about the flex lines acting as one-way valves I understood why my old brakes locked up on me so much...

:icon_confused:Wondering if the brass block/tee between the front brake lines and the master brake cylinder is just a tee or a proportional splitter. Can I use normal hydraulic fittings to replace the block. :icon_idea:Is it advisable to cut the old tube splice in new tube and a new block?

the block is just a brass block, it's nothing special

the fact that it's mounted on a clip that attaches it
to the frame makes it kinda convenient.

You can if you are REALLY interested in simplifying things
get TWO new brake hoses for an '89-up
and running a new rigid line from the master cylinder to the drivers
side hose upper end, because on '89-until ABS the upper end of
the line IS the "brass block"

It must be noted however that on an '89 the line runs arcoss
the front of the engine crossmember, while the '83-88 the line
is INSIDE the crossmember.
