i'm lucky enough to find a d30 let alone a 44. when this 30 comes out it will be replaced by a 60.

which i believe may also have the same spring width since its a 1 for 1 swap in a leaf sprung f-250 hahaha.

32" center-center seems to be the width for the spring perches. thats what this guy used on his D44. http://www.therangerstation.com/tech_library/Dana44_leafspring_conversion.htm

im gonna make spring perches out of some square tube and my buddys plasma, and same with the spring hangers.

Should i run the shackles mounted on the rear of the leaf or the front? I was thinking the rear but i've seen a few rigs on here with em mounted on front.
Also does anyone know the diameter of the D30 axle tubes? its of a cherokee im guessing from the early 90s
I plan to follow this build a bit..

only thing is my mounts will bolt to the frame, not welded on. and im kinda thinking now that, unfortunately, im gonna have to re-design my bumper mounts because they bolt right on to the outside of the frame. so ill probably just have the mounts for the bumper bolting to the inside of the chassis and the spring mounts will bolt to the outside and the bottom of the chassis

search thru pirate the front v.s. rear debate is almost as bad as ford v.s. chevy.
when we did the sas on the B2 we litterally just looked for which way was easier. so on the front they went putting them on the rear woulda made caster angle great pinion angle on the other hand woulda been crap without turning the inner c's. you should have it o.k. since your perch wont be built into the center section like the waggy 44 and several other leaf sprung front axles. if you do your hangers just like that and use the wishbone style shackle (factory rear) you could allways swap the shackle to the front if you ever do decide to run a 44 or 60 (without axle modification)

imo, the front/rear debate can be summed up simply here...

front shackles perform better as when the spring compresses (hitting a rock) the axle moves forward slightly, helping the tire bump over the obstacle, where as with a rear shackle, it moves away from the obstacle.

REAR shackle is better for beating, basically if your shackle hits an obstacle (on the front) you're going to bend the spring in a way it isn't designed to bend, and most likely break the spring... this can be counter acted by a skid plate that covers the shackle completely

bottom line is you will never know the difference till you do it yourself. ive set them up both ways and didnt notive a huge difference either way in ride quality. (from the highway to flogging them thru fire ruts. did a shackel reversal on a jeep and it didnt feel any different to me (maybe im deaf to the difference IDK )

aparently your more likely do damage a spring with them in the front but have yet to have a spring failure on any of the vehicles that i run with that have them in the front either. however we dont have much for rock crawling more mud than anything so that might make a big difference

Yeah that's what I'm thinking so I think I'll try to mount them on the rear..
