I just found a set of 16" wheels with brand new tires from a 1999 ranger 4x4. My truck is a 97 ranger 4x4 with 15" wheels on it, and was wondering if these would fit onto my truck? If not where could I find some 16" rims that would fit my 97? Thanks Alot!!

If your truck is a 4x4 they won't work because the hubs on the older rangers are larger. Not sure what will fit though... My guess would be aftermarket rims...

Depending on the tires you might just be better off getting new tires on their own.

some styles of explorer rims will work on the 4x4s. I'm not sure if those ones were ever used on the rangers though.

96+ Explorers got 16" rims but they also have the hub size of the newer rangers. because they use the same front axle setup.

what's the difference in size? couldn't you get creative with a hole-saw without compromising the wheel integrity?

I'm pretty sure that the split-spoke mag wheel that uses the big center cap on the gen 4 explorers will hit over the hubs. That hole is bigger than the others.

I think the FX4 L2 Alcola wheels might work too. You really just need something with a 2 inch center hole. Those Alcolas aren't actually much different from te gen 1 mags in terms of structure, and those fit over the hubs.

The rims should fit fine on your 97. I used to have a 2001 4x4 ranger and i took the wheels and tires off of it and put them on my 93 for a while(yes they were the stock 01 teardrop rims), the hub fits through the center of the rim. It might be a little snug but it will fit.
Also if you want to be 100% sure, just drive your truck over there, jack it up take a wheel off and test fit the rims you are looking at, but im pretty sure they should work just fine, just remember that when you take those newer rims off that the hub will stay stuck in the rim and you will need to take your hand and tap on it to pop it back out unless you do the hub mod.

I am still almost positive they will not fit...

I tried putting my 99 rims (same style as explorer rims) on my 84 ranger with manual hubs and they made it about 3" down the hub before they just got stuck, not even to the studs.

The older 90-95 explorers had the same axles as the rangers and the same hubs too so older pre 96 explorer rims will work but they only came in 15" to my knowledge.

i have 2002 alum rims from a ranger 4x4 and the front center holes were machined out to fit my 1983 1st gen ranger 4x4. uh, no, they didn't have auto hubs back then iirc, so mine are manual.

The solid spoke mags won't fit without some machining, the split spokes will, I think the Alcolas do too, the end of the story is:

It depends on the style of the rim.
