I have an 83 Ranger 4x4 with a 2.3 and 4 speed. The motor has been replaced with one out of and older model Courier. The carb is ins bad shape and in need of replacement. Will it matter what the replacemnet carb comes from? Car or truck? It seems easier to find a carb for a late 70's early 80's car
than for a truck. Thanks for any help.

depends on which carb you have.... if it has 1 wing nut/stud for the air cleaner you have the 1bbl and if you have 2 wingnut/studs then toy have the progressive 2bbl carb

the 2bbl carb is much more common, and yes one of these from any car or truck should about work.

If you have a 2 bbl intake get a rochester off of a 305 or 350 chev. This set-up is the cheapest and the simplest and makes the most hp from a stock motor. There are many different size rochesters out there. You could also get one from a 305 marine motor, they are the biggest, along with ones from 1974 350 rockets and 455 pontiac engines. I use this set-up on my 88 stock ranger and my 2.5 litre hydroplane which employs the 400 lift rule. Also works the best with a d-port intake. By the way, good gas milage also.

Got the new carb installed today. It was just like the old one I removed. The only catch is the throttle cable hook up. I'm going to have to adjust the bracket a little bit. Now I hopefully won't be having any more fires due to a leaking carb. I can get on to other parts of the project.
