Hi all,
I've been going through the posts here for engine swaps - there's a bit of 2.3 > 4.o, but very little on the 2.5 to 4.0.
I have a 98 2.5 that has spun a bearing and one of the valves is starting to go. The 5 speed transmission is in dire need of a release bearing, but otherwise works great. I have a 1994 4.0 donor explorer that is just about finished - transmission is shot, 4wd system is gone, body is ratched, etc etc.
I was looking to swap out the motors -
Has anyone done one of these before?
Can the 2.5 5 speed bolt directly to the 4.0 or do I need a bell housing adapter? If an adapter is needed I would probably just take the transmission out of the explorer and rebuild it - if thats the case, what do I need to muck about with in terms of driveshafts, etc [4wd > 2wd].
Any fabbing needed for motor mounts?
Wiring?
Additionally, what else should I try and Cannibalize from the Explorer? I was thinking rear springs, front coils, and 16" tires for sure - should I be looking at the rear axle?
All of this may have been answered elsewhere - if so I apologize for my ignorance...I appreciate any insight you guys might have.
Cheers,
