It take 20 start cycles to clear the codes by itself you should know by driving it

not sure on the placement I am guessing it would be ok the pinging comes from the top of the cylinders a test drive couldnt hurt but would it get too hot being close to the exh manifold

To be completely honest, I didn't even try the easy out. Saw the extra spot and went with it. If it doesn't work then I will beat myself crazy trying to get it out. Didn't feel like trying to get the drill in there straight in between the rain showers. Might get too hot next to the manifold. it sits right under it. I did not clear the codes when checking. Figured that the 25, if fixed, would only show up in the memory codes. Cleared them afterwards though.

Hey you dont need to unplug the battery or even clear the codes for it to work properly just good to know if it is working driving will tell you that from your description of the broke off stud can`t you just tap a screwdriver in it and twist it out

ahhhhh geeez. Didn't think about trying a screwdriver. The stud is recessed in the block about 1/16" or so. Maybe I can tap a smaller screwdriver in between the brass core and the plastic stuff.

When I ran it with the new(er) sensor The timing mark moved from the pointer towards the battery when I hit the throttle. Is that the right direction? Or would retarding the timing be moving the mark more towards the drivers side?

and by the way, that smaller round plug in the pictures? Goes to the oil level sensor in the side of the oil pan. This truck, however, does not have one, so it just hangs there.

that is correct it should turn c/clockwise when it retardsas look from the front

Cool. So theoretically it SHOULD be driving better. And if the code continues to appear?? Then what?

On some models, it sits right on the drivers side of the oil pan. I am assuming it is an oil level sensor for the dashboard idiot light. But that is a guess.
