what is the best thing to do on a budget for DD?
i have an educated guess from a friend thinks i have a bent connecting rod from
listening to it. sounds like passenger side. is it possible to pull and replace this without pulling the motor?
ive got a rebuilt motor lined up for a swap but i want to save the wet motor.

for what its worth
You MIGHT be able to do things "in frame"....BUT It will be a Whole lot easier with engine out & on a stand. You'll be able to see Sooo much better & not to mention room to work..and purhapes catch something that would have been missed if you did the in frame route. thus if you miss something...and get it running then odds you'll be back doing major wrenching again. Bad, very bad.

If you already have the transplant ready to go....do the swap...then place the sick unit on a stand work on it as time and funds allow.

You need to pull the motor.

After you rebuild it or swap a replacement in, be sure to fix the stock intake so it doesn't get hydrolocked again.

To give you an idea of how bad the stock RBV intakes are for sucking up water; my Explorer was hydrolocked in hub-deep water. That was back when it had 31s.
