I Didnt know where else to write this other than this forum:
I was standing outside the local barbershop and saw a late 80's ranger pull up with 2 gas caps, 1 in front and 1 in back of the wheel. Whats up with this? I never knew rangers had two tanks??

It was an option on some '80s trucks. I don't know much about it beyond that though.

yeah, the second tank goes where the spare is on most trucks. its actually 13 gal if i remember. i have heard that the wiring is there, just not the switches and hardware, because ford used the same basic harness for every truck.

I bought one of the "in the spare well" auxilliary tanks. When I saw that the filler neck would just stick thru a grommeted hole in the bed's sidewall, I decided not to install it. I went with a marine polytank inside my tool box and a transfer pump on a timer.

The one on mine was a tank. It had the switch to change the tank from front to back and the whole 9 yards.

my spare will be a 33" anyway, so it will have to go in the bed, so if i wanted an auxilary tank, do you think i could mount the aux. tank where they went and route the filler hose to come up through the inside of the bed? Anyone have suggestions. I drive from Baltimore MD to either DC or Virginia everyday depending on where the job is. 2 tanks would save me a lot of stopping time. As far as switching over, I assume you need to splice in extra fuel lines and a switch to get the aux. fuel pump hot?

My '86 has a rear tank only, as the suspension is where the front tank was. I found a replacement sender and straps but, not the tank. Mine is rusted.
It also has a spare tire mount in the left front corner of the box.
