I just got this 04 ranger with a 2.3 16 valve. The problem is when the engine warms up it will make this ticking noise pretty bad! Ranger only has 73,000 miles on it! They say it might be a sticking valve. The truck runs like a champ and has no lost power. Is this motor still savable? ANY SUGGESTIONS WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED? Thanks!

change the oil to synthetic and see if that helps........maybe the noise is the injectors.......add some techron to the tank

Camshaft tappet "bucket" probably. A lot of them seem to do it without any problems other than slightly annoying.

My neighbor has a pest control business and he has an 02 2.3 Ranger with that ticking noise. Had it since 30,000 miles and the truck now has 210,000 miles on it and never a problem.
The ticking noise issue has been asked and answered dozens of times on this forum.

I already changed the oil!

Oil was changed already and put lucas in it. Still the noise remains! Also when the truck is on and I open the oil cap it has an extreme amount of blowby blowing out! IS THIS NORMAL? No water in the oil though! I already pulled off the intake and valve cover and i think i'm going to have someone check it out?
