Josh runs 39s on his setup on the explorer. Then again, he's got 4340 chromo's and CTM joints running 9290 Warn hubs. I'd do all the proper upgrades and not think twice about running that size tire.

As for the rear, Get a set of chromo's for that as well

Then you should be absolutely fine with a medium weight foot for the go-pedal.

same setup as I plan on running with narrowed HP 44 stock shafts with spicer joints and a 44 scout rearend. Kid before me ran these axles with 40x18.5 boggers, never had an issue with the rear, but constantly destroyed Napa u joints. granted he was doing stupid shit like this with 40" boggers

Are you speaking of 760's. I would still get differnt joints. Spicer cold forged are good, but there are better. And if you are going to be taxing the axles, get better.

just rock it till something gives, UPGRADE whatever gives, repeat.

yes, upgrade what breaks, not just replace, that's the key to this cycle.

I know all about that. How do you think my truck got to where it is now? I just can't afford 1-tons right now that's why I started this thread.

Right now my axles are;
Front- '75 EB D44, 78 knuckles, warn premium hubs, HardRock Chromo axles, Spicer 5-760 red label joints w/ F-C snap rings, Richmond thick 5.13 gear set, open carrier (just until I get my Power-Lok fixed)

Rear- '78 big bearing 9" housing narrowed to 59" wms-wms, Moser chromo shafts, Richmond 5.14 gears, open carrier w/ Aussie Locker

The rear should be fine the front is what I would be worried out. HD joints or not you are still going to be going through them on real trails. In the mud you will be fine.

I would pick up a set of 9290's (warn non-premiums) as they seem to outlive the premiums.
