Mine has been sounding like a diesel. It's very audible at idle, but normal at anything higher than idle. Valve train related?

my 99 started doin that the first time i changed the oil after bought it. i heard that 4.0s are known for havin engine noise. i did the old screwdriver trick (put your ear up against the handle and the other end against the motor in various places- acts like a stethoscope. use a big screwdriver). i found that the noise on mine was comin from the pushrods and rockers on the passenger side. try addin engine restore on your next oilchange. quieted right down and has never been that loud since. mine started at 70k, i was freakin out and had it in at the dealership twice. tech said he didnt hear the noise. my truck now has almost 195k on it and is still runnin strong.
