Toyota manages to convince their customers that they have to use Toyota oil filters- among other things. That's absolutely not true, it is illegal for a manufacturer to mandate their parts, they can mandate OEM equivalent only. Toyota owners are also more likely to get their maintenance done by the dealer than a domestic buyer. My neighbor is a case in point, he bought a new 90 F150 from us and would have it "serviced" at a tire store. I'd hear his center caps rattling when he drove by and call him to tell him he needed to tighten them before he lost them. His Tacoma is maintained by the dealer. Toyota finally "fixed" their cheesy frames in 2009. If a Ford or GM frame rusted through on a truck less than 5-6 years old there would be a nationwide uproar, Toyotas frames never made the network news. Our local Toyota dealer is reputed to be a good one, they plow their yard with a Ford F250 rather than break a Tundra.
