This isn't anything urgent or problematic, but since I'm sitting on my tail and thinking about it, figured I'd see if anyone has any thoughts.
I have a 98 ranger with a 4.0 OHV and 5R55E. Since I purchased the truck about 8 years ago it's done this. When I am stopped, in gear, it'll slightly lunge forward. More like the torque converter is engaging, or just bringing up the rpm's to around 2000, but the rpms are usually around 800-1200. It isn't violent or harsh. It certainly feels like the trans is engaging as opposed to he IAC raising the rpms. initially I thought it was the VSS so I replaced it and it didn't help. So I just left it because it wasn't a concern. About a year and a half ago the original trans went out and I figured the problem would go away when I put in the new one. Well the probably persists and the "new" trans is from an explorer and the owner says it had about 25K miles on it since full rebuild. I have no direct proof of this but it shifts great and everything looked fresh when I bought it. When it went in the truck no old parts were reused. Which leads me to believe it's not trans related. I recently discovered this lunging is a little more frequent and prominent when the AC compressor engages.
Any thoughts what to look in to? I'm not getting any codes. I'm not sure where to go from here except to watch the PID's and see if that shows anything.
Thanks for the input
